Due to its location over the West branch of the Kalamazoo River, the work is proceeding with extra precautions to avoid any potential contamination of the water from the earlier paint from 1985. This is the first detailed restoration of the mural, that was first completed in 1920, at the same time the industrial north welcomed many workers from the South.
