The Art of Resilience exhibition was created by students from public schools in Calhoun County Michigan, who had an opportunity to work with adult artists trained by Starr Commonwealth, to create art that would share their hopes and dreams. Art brings us together.
Show opens at the Ludington Center on July 14, 2019, with a reception that same day from 2-4 p.m. See more information below.
The Art of Resilience program is based on cultural enrichment modalities that are used in larger cities, or adapted from Native American cultures.
This special exhibit includes work from students who attend Battle Creek Public Schools, Lakeview Schools, and Marshall Public Schools.
Embracing Circle of Courage and Universal Needs modality, teaching artists worked with students to use art as an expression of how each individual relates to the concepts of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity and celebrates their resiliency.
Learn more about the Circle of Courage:
In Native American and First Nations cultures, significance was nurtured in communities of belonging. Treating others as kin forges powerful social bonds that draw all into relationships of respect. In helping others, youth create their own proof of worthiness: they make a positive contribution to another human life. From: https://starr.org/circle-of-courage/
