General Guide – Spring • Summer • Fall 2022 – Spring Forward Growth Edition – 39th Issue
It’s spring in Michigan and the greater Albion area has much to look forward to! If you live in the city of Albion or rural Albion, look inside the Morning Star shopper newspaper the weekend of April 16th. You will find your copy of General Guide – Spring, Summer, Fall 2022 – Spring Forward Growth Edition. Despite the world’s trials, our days are getting longer, and our gardens are coming back to life.
The 39th Issue of the General Guide has photos of flowers at Jolly Green Junction on the front and an aerial view of the Cass St. Bridge. The sponsors of this issue are all women-owned businesses, including Jolly Green Junction, which sells items for early spring planting, and Anna’s House of Flowers, which is now downtown, next to the Secretary of State’s office.
Other sponsors include the Morning Star, a Salesman Publication, and the General Guide, featuring Arts, Culture, and Outdoors.
The General Guide is a printed companion sheet to the AlbionMich.net website.
The printed Guide highlights helpful information with more detail being online. For example, the website now features information about the redistricting that happened across Calhoun. In addition, there is information about how to run for office, either on a county-level or local level. Finally, the website lists more volunteer opportunities beyond these public service boards. Volunteerism is good for your soul and a great way to connect to your community.
You can also access information about resources in the Albion area using the online Guide. Including the Community Table of Albion food distribution schedule, which the calendar page shares. If life gets too stressful, there’s a web page to see information on how to contact mental health services and other resources. The calendar also shows dates for musical and theatrical performances. There is also a church directory at the larger website, AlbionMich.net, and links to many YouTube videos, including a song about Good Friday written right here in Albion: “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Albion has had a history of having hardships and working together to look for practical solutions to move forward. We can show others who might consider Albion as a place to live that we hear and value opinions from others as we move forward to do our best. Teddy Roosevelt’s famous “Man in the Arena” speech from April 23rd, 1910, is also posted to AlbionMich.net. His message from 112 years ago may encourage those who want to be a part of the growth in Albion by participating in public office or on a city commission. “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena.”
