General Guide XXX – the Spring Forward Edition for March 2018 was delivered in the Morning Star shopper newspaper to homes in Albion the weekend of February 24, 2018!  The Guides are also available at participating businesses. The Spring Forward Edition of the General Guide features information about planning for Spring Break, why do we call Spring – “Spring” and getting outdoors.

This issue features some nature scenes of this area, including our famous black squirrels, and a stately bur oak tree near I-94.  There are music events to get out to see, and ideas for a road trip nearby with a theme.

The General Guide reminds us to turn our clocks forward on Sunday March 11, to Daylight Savings time.  The inventor of DST was from New Zealand in 1895 , but the idea was first suggested by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 but it was a bit of a joke.  He suggested that we take advantage of the day light hours to do thing in the evening by getting people to wake up earlier.  But he didn’t mention changing our clocks.

The first week of March starts out with an Economic Forecast for Albion that is slated to take place at the brand new Courtyard by Marriott hotel in downtown Albion.  We’ll be posting information about this on the Albion Google Calendar.  Classic Matinees for only $3 continue at Albion’s historic Bohm Theatre at 10 a.m. on Saturdays.  There are indoor Farmers’ Markets in both Albion on Saturdays and Marshall on Wednesdays.

Several music events take place in March 2018  The music events at Albion College usually take place at Goodrich Chapel, and there are live music events also at Cascarelli’s, and at Marshall Public Schools.

We recently posted some Albion-centric events that happened in February – including the Cardboard Classic, Men Who Cook, and the Walk for Warmth.  We’ll be posting a page soon that highlights these Albion classic events.  We’ll also explain more about black squirrels and old oak trees.

Thank you for stopping by.

There is an online version of the community events calendar at GeneralGuide.net with links to more official information about these topics, past issues of the General Guide, photos of progress in Albion and Marshall, and Farmer’s Almanac news. Please support the participating businesses listed on the Guide who make the free publication possible.  If your business would like to be included in the General Guide, please contact us by clicking here.
