October 2016 – Albion Big Read Edition

gg_xx_oct_2016_front_405wideGeneral Guide, Issue XX, “The Albion Big Read Edition” features educational happenings in Albion and nearby.  The photo is of Harrington School on the first day of school after several years of being closed.  Harrington is now part of the newly enlarged Marshall Public School District.

Albion is once again participating in the “Big Read,” a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.  We are reading a book together, and having discussions, concerts, lectures and other events that are open to the public.

October is Homecoming for Albion College.  We are encouraging people to wear purple, that is one of the Albion College colors, but also reminiscent of the infamous Purple Gang that once frequented downtown Albion.

This Big Read Edition of the Guide is sponsored in part by the Albion Big Read. Albion College has also sponsored this edition, making it possible to distribute to every home in Albion and rural Albion in the Morning Star, every home in Marshall in the Advisor & Chronicle, and also to students of Albion College and upper classes of Marshall Public Schools.

Ocrtober’s General Guide also lists some home games at Albion College and Marshall High School that are fun to attend for all people in this area.  We will be getting more of the links to the official calendars with more information on the calendar page – see the menu above.  We will be posting links to all of the events from there, and creating posts about each topic here on this site also.

gg_xix_back_oct_2016_405wideThere are three more education related topics on the General Guide XX – a fun river trail walk that happened on Labor Day in Albion, the Youth Symposium at Albion College that was facilitated by Starr Commonwealth for Marshall Middle School students, the “Rock” at Albion College, the Albion Big Read leaders.  You might be in one of these pictures.    This issue had a print run of 12,500 copies that will be fully distributed in area shopper newspapers, to students, and at many of the businesses listed.

Learn more about these events at the new link: GeneralGuide.net. Remember to look in your Morning Star this weekend to get your copy. You can also pick up a copy of the General Guide to Albion by visiting the Morning Star office at 125 E. Cass Street, or Art Craft Press at 118 W. Vine Street, behind the Post Office.
